Fuck self help, fuck medium, fuck gurus — says the guru

This website is riddled with self-help. I’m not annoyed at it, I just don’t think that much of it is impactful. It’s riddled with overused metaphors, theories and other crap that most of us don’t need. I’m here to tell in the science behind why your brain is unique.

I’m Tony and I am a meditation instructor at a Canadian University.

And I am here to tell you to save yourself.

No one can tell you how to do it, because no one knows.

What do you mean Tony??? Of course people know what’s good for me”

No, people really, truly cannot say what’s better or worse for you.

The world used to be about saying Fuck YOU to as many people as you can, love a handful and take it moment by moment.

Instead today, half the world wants you to wake up earlier and work 3 jobs to be the best, YUCK.

Don’t listen to people’s bullshit. Because they know nothing about you.

We’ve all experienced similarly unique moments in our lives,

we have different genetics and we are truly similarly different.

What do I mean by that?

I mean that we inhabit a similar body, with the same kind of joints and angles, and we feel emotions in a similar way,

but nonetheless — we are different.

The brain is made up of TRILLIONS of connections. That means that there are more connections than stars in the solar system squared.

THAT IS A LOTT of neuronal connections.

Why does that matter? I don’t have trillions in my bank account so I don’t give a shit.

Touché.

Well, because if you’re looking for help on Medium you’re looking in the wrong place.

You have 2 options, go to a therapist or learn to mediate.

A therapist is a great idea! You can leave all the heavy emotional lifting to another person! They’ll help you work through why your childhood wasn’t perfect or why your dog died and it wasn’t your fault.

If you can afford it and want expediency go with that route.

Buuut. If you can’t afford a therapist I think that you should try to mediate.

Let me say this right away, meditation is not a religious thing that requires you to sit in a dark room, with candles up your nose and an orange robe.

No, meditation is nothing more than focus training.

Meditation is absolutely amazing as a skill, imaging being able to consciously change and mold your behaviour into whatever you want it to be.

Imagine realizing that you’re angry, and thinking

“Fuck I shouldn’t be angry”

and ACTUALLY being able to just stop being angry. or sad. or lethargic.

Imagine pumping yourself up out of nowhere.

Imagine flying.

Hahahaha, meditation can’t make you fly unless you’re a bird or a pilot, but I mean it’s fun to imagine.
